Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome, babe! We are so excited for you. Thanks for trusting us - we promise you are in good hands.

Let’s get started:

If it is your first time at SUGR SUGR, we kindly ask that you arrive 5-7 minutes before your scheduled appointment in order to get settled, use the washroom, and relax before your service. In our private treatment room, you will be able to ask questions, consult with your service provider, and get the deets on how to prepare for your services booked. We pride ourselves in providing a safe, clean and comfortable atmosphere for all of our valuable clients.

Does it hurt?

I mean, yeah, getting waxed or sugared is never really a fun time. We are ripping your hair out after all! But we promise - it is totally bearable and completely worth the minimal discomfort. Plus, it gets better with every visit - keep up with your monthly maintenance and see great results with less pain every time you come in!

How long does my hair have to be?

We always strongly recommend having a minimum of 3-4 weeks growth in the area(s) you are hoping to have waxed/sugared. Ideally, you are looking for about the size of a grain of rice or longer (for comparison).

I know, I know. That first grow out before any hair removal service is the worst. You are used to shaving every few days. I get it, it’s a hard transition. Holding out on your razor will be the best decision you’ll ever make - Trust us!

Allowing your hair to fully grow out for a full cycle of hair growth (4 weeks) will ensure the best possible results for your hair removal services.

I’m on my period, do I need to reschedule?

Absolutely not! Sh*t happens, right? We’re all women here. Sometimes your monthly cycle will come on the most inconvenient day. Fret not - it is completely safe and totally normal to get waxed/sugared on your period. As long as you are comfortable proceeding with the service - we are more than happy to accommodate you. All that we ask is that you have a fresh tampon or diva cup in place for your service. All good baby-babay!

Wax or Sugar? What’s best?

Both! We encourage clients to have the right to choose what is most comfortable for them. Our sugaring and waxing services are catered to YOUR skin & hair type - and both products can be used on multiple areas. If you aren’t sure which would be best suited for you, or the area you are hoping to have waxed/sugared, we are pleased to help guide you on your decision with a detailed consultation prior to having your services done.

K, but what’s the difference between the two?

The main difference between waxing and sugaring is the application. Waxing is performed by using a spatula to apply warm wax WITH the hair growth pattern, ripping it off via cloth strip that is applied on top of the wax, against the grain. Sugaring is applied by hand, OPPOSITE the hair growth pattern, and ripped off using a flicking motion of the wrist, with the grain.

Sugar paste is all-natural, containing only water, sugar & lemon. This service is perfect for delicate areas like the Brazilian or underarms, or for our clients with a bit more of a sensitive skin type. Sugar works well on coarse hair. This service is also known to help with irritation and ingrown hairs. Healing time with the sugar paste is 6-12 hours.

Waxing is great for large areas like the legs, arms chest or back, or for precision waxing services like eyebrows. It can be applied and removed in larger strips, and is great for medium or very fine like textured hair - peach fuzz, if you will. Healing time with the warm wax is 12-24 hours.

I just got waxed/sugared, what are the dos and don’ts?

You’re smooth as a dolphin, babe! Now what? There are a few rules to follow after any hair removal service is preformed. We want your skin to be glowing and beautiful - so here are a few tips to help your healing process and grow out phase:

I’m expecting - is this safe during pregnancy?

Yes, yes and YES! Although all of our services are completely safe for pregnant women (all the way up to 37 weeks!), we always recommend consulting with your health practitioner before booking an appointment.

I am trying to book an appointment online, but there is no availability?

You forgot to book ahead, plans have changed, or a last minute trip has come up - but there are no appointments available to book, Awww Man! We are so so sorry. Availability can sometimes be limited - especially in high seasons such as summer or vacation months. As much as we would LOVE to accommodate each and every one of you, there are just not enough hours in the day! But don’t stress - we always have a running waitlist going. Last minute appointments do come up here and there, and we will always do our very best to get you in. If you are having trouble getting an appointment, please send us an email @ heysugr@gmail.com with your requested dates/times, along with the specific services you are looking to have done.

I see an appointment that is available - but it is more expensive than the day-time slots.

To keep up with the high volume of requests, we have now started to offer after-hours ‘surcharge’ appointments. These appointments are available on Wednesday evenings at Westboro and Thursday evenings at Merivale. These slots are opened up to the public about 1-2 weeks in advance, are only available between 6-7pm, and have a 20% markup in price. This is always a good option for clients who need later time slot options as well :)

What is your cancelation policy?

We require a full 24 hours notice for any cancelations. By booking an appointment with us, you agree to all of our terms and conditions. Cancelations with less than 24 hours notice will be charged a 50% fee of services booked. No shows will be charged 100% of services booked, and will not be permitted to re-book until balance is paid. Credit card info is mandatory for booking an appointment online, and your appointment will not be held without it. This helps us protect our time, our business, and makes room for clients who are waiting to get in.

Late appointments

If you are running late for an appointment, please reach out to us and let us know. Late arrival to your appointment disrupts our schedule and affects clients checking in after you. We will always do our very best to accommodate you, however, depending on how late you will be, your appointment may be subject to reduction of services, cancelation, and/or cancelation fees.
